Frenectomies

Frenectomies

The muscle that connects the upper lip to your child’s gums or their tongue to the floor of their mouth is called a frenum. Sometimes these muscles are too thick in infants and can lead to problems breastfeeding because your child cannot latch properly. Dr. Anya can perform a procedure using a soft tissue laser to release the frenum to allow your child a much better range of motion. Most mothers see an improvement immediately! Using a soft tissue laser is by far the easiest way to complete this procedure. The laser will release the tissue that is restricting your child’s motion instead of cutting it, so there is far less bleeding or discomfort. Some infants and children actually sleep through the entire procedure!
